SOLAPUR CITY'S HEART - SIDDHESHWAR TEMPLE

Siddheshwar Temple is located in the city of Solapur and is one of the most famous temples in Maharashtra. The temple is located amidst the lake fringed by Bhuikot fort. The temple was built by Shri Siddharameshwar, a yogi. It is said that the temple was built 600- 700 years back. He built this temple and made 68 Shiva lingams in the temple.The temple is dedicated to Siddheshwar, a 12th century devotee of Shiva who is considered as a God in Lingayat faith and the gramdevta of Solapur. He made It is at the temple's site where he is recorded as having attained samadhi. A marble samadhi exists at the centre of the temple even today. There are several small temples present within the complex ones dedicated to Ganesh, Hanuman and Vithoda Rakumai. A silver plated statue of Nandi is also present. There is a lake within the temple complex.
 The temple is located at the heart of the city.The best time to visit the temple is the Makar Sankranti festival in mid-January, when a grand celebration takes place for three days. Gadda Yatra, a local fair, is arranged for fifteen days in the vicinity of the temple. The temple is in honour of Siddheshwar, a devotee of Shiva.
